If you slipped today, you are not back at the bottom. You begin again from today, not from nothing. Your longest climb is kept, and what you learned on the way up is still yours.
Three things for tonight.
Set down the second arrow
The slip is the first arrow. The shame that follows is a second one. It often arrives on its own, and it can feel like taking responsibility. Usually it is just more pain. Feeling it does not mean you did something wrong again. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to a friend who told you the same thing.
Step back on tonight, not Monday
After a slip, a voice often says: it is already ruined, so why stop now? That voice is how one moment becomes a long week. Catch it, and take one small step back onto the trail tonight. Put the phone to bed early and drink a glass of water.
Ask one question, kindly
What did this slip show me about my trail? The answer might be an hour, or a place. Write it down. Tomorrow it can become an if-then plan.
If reading helps tonight, two Library reflections were written for this evening: Starting again is not starting over, and A slip is not a slide.
If you want to, say it out loud here. Leave out details and anything that identifies you, since everything here is public and can show up in search. Everyone who replies is asked to put kindness first.
If tonight is heavier than a slip, and thoughts of harming yourself show up, call your local emergency number or find a line at findahelpline.com. In the app, tap I feel an urge, then Get help now, for the crisis line.
